• The Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) hosts quarterly meetings for the Multilingual Education Leadership Network (mELn), serving English Learner (EL) program leaders, coordinators, and administrators throughout the Capital Central Foothills Area Consortium (CCFAC).Operating in direct alignment with GEMS (Geo-Regional Experts for Multilingual Students)—California's system of seven county office of education regional EL lead agencies, this network is built to strengthen regional capacity, deliver specialized technical assistance, and refine instructional systems. 

   

  This collective infrastructure ensures that more students successfully progress toward English language proficiency and high academic achievement.  The network focuses heavily on comprehensive English Language Development (ELD) delivered through the structural lens of the California English Learner Roadmap. These quarterly sessions provide members with timely, reliable information on evolving EL legislation and explicit state/federal accountability frameworks.

   

  A collaborative dissemination model supported by direct insights from the California Department of Education (CDE) and state subject-matter experts, participants leverage this space to share evidence-based best practices and cross-district data. Network members act as vital regional conduits, taking the tools, calibrated resources, and policy updates gained at quarterly meetings and directly disseminating them to the individual school sites within their respective districts and charters.

The Sacramento Cal-SOAP Consortium meets on a quarterly basis to share best practices of college access and success activities to maximize resources and avoid duplication of services. Meeting of key stakeholders from county offices of education, higher education institutions, K-12 districts, community agencies and businesses. 

Districtwide Training and Implementation of the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) National Model/RAMP (Recognized ASCA Model Program) Program.

Continental breakfast and lunch will be provided (gluten-free and vegan options will be available). Parking is limited - carpooling is encouraged.

This training has been paid for by your district and lunch is provided. If you are unable to attend and need to cancel, please advise your district supervisor immediately.

Establishing a supportive learning environment requires more than just good intentions; it requires consistent, predictable routines. This interactive professional development session introduces the CASEL Three Signature Practices, a versatile framework designed to foster belonging, increase engagement, and build community in any adult or student-facing setting. Participants will explore the purpose of each practice and learn how to integrate them seamlessly into their daily work to create a culture of safety and connection.

This will be a combined session of our September 7 & 8 sessions.

• Instructional strategies and routines to help all students better comprehend complex texts, with an emphasis on those students historically underserved by California schools.

• Comprehensive literacy framework that identifies the specific factors that affect overall literacy and oracy, with an emphasis on applying these factors to effective reading comprehension instruction and intervention.

• Motivational and engagement strategies that help students to successfully and independently comprehend complex text in all content areas.

• Strategies for differentiation to facilitate comprehension of core content texts for multilingual learners across levels of English language proficiency (Integrated ELD)

Navigating state and federal program requirements can be complex! To support your work and keep you informed, SCOE offers the State and Federal Programs Network.

These virtual sessions are designed to serve as a collaborative space for both district and charter leaders. Sample topics include:

• Timely Regulatory & Funding Updates: Key guidance regarding Title programs, LCAP alignment, grant management, and compliance timelines.
• Peer Collaboration: Dedicated time to share effective practices, resources, and strategies across districts and charter schools.
• Q&A & Direct Technical Assistance: Live opportunities to clarify guidance, address common compliance questions, and request focused support.

Meetings are held via Zoom the week following the CDE State and Federal Directors meeting. A calendar invite and Zoom link will be shared upon registration.

The Attendance and Engagement Network is hosted by the Sacramento County Office of Education. The Network meets three times a year, with agendas developed collaboratively based on feedback from network members.

The network facilitates learning activities, guest speakers, and tools to:

• Examine and monitor data
• Enhance student attendance and engagement
• Foster collaboration between network members.

*Light breakfast will be served, we welcome you to join us for collaboration during that time, starting at 8:30A.

The Parent Café Host Community of Practice (CoP) is a supportive, collaborative space designed for Parent Café hosts to connect, share strategies, and build their leadership skills. Grounded in the core agreements of mutual respect, active listening, and non-judgmental support, the CoP provides peer inspiration and continuous learning to help Hosts effectively strengthen their Parent Cafe teams and support the families in their communities. Participants engage in interactive activities—such as community conversations and team-building exercises around key operational areas like coordination, outreach, and logistics—to foster deep social connections, refine their hosting practices, and expand their local community networks.

*Please note, this CoP is open to certified Parent Café Hosts. If you are interested in becoming a certified Parent Café  Host, please contact earlylearning@scoe.net.

• Define STEM components in an early childhood classroom.

• Experience dynamic planning for developmentally appropriate STEM environments and interactions/ conversations.

These virtual sessions will offer an opportunity to learn from guest speakers in the education field, collectively discuss current trends and relevant data related to inclusion topics, and collaboratively network with other educators

A Practice-Based STEAM Workshop for Early Childhood Educators

From soaring seeds to sail-powered cars, wind invites children to wonder, test, and discover. In this practice-based workshop, educators will explore playful ways to use wind as a force for learning — sparking curiosity, creativity, and problem-solving in young learners.

This interactive session follows our proven structure:

• 45-Minute Engaging Presentation — Discover how wind play connects to STEAM concepts like force, lift, motion, and design.

• 15-Minute Video Reflection — See wind-powered learning in action and discuss strategies to bring it to life.

• 60-Minute Tinker & Take — Create hands-on wind exploration tools you can bring back to your program the very next day.

You’ll leave with:

• A deeper understanding of how wind builds early science, engineering, and math skills.

• Ready-to-use activities — from flying seeds to floating balls to sail-powered cars.

• Materials and ideas you can implement right away in your classroom or program.

This professional learning opportunity provides an introduction to systems thinking and its application in the workplace. Organizations achieve better results when people understand not only what is happening, but why it is happening. Through hands-on, experiential activities and real-world application, participants will connect systems thinking to their current work, gaining practical strategies for recognizing patterns, understanding interdependencies, and identifying opportunities for meaningful change. This series also serves as the foundation for those interested in continuing their learning leadership development using a systems approach.

This training contains 3 sessions over the fall semester. Please ensure you are able to attend all three dates prior to committing to the training.

How Paraprofessionals Can Support the Communication of Students Using Augmentative and Alternative Communication

Are you a paraprofessional who works with students who use augmentative and alternative communication (AAC)? Ever wonder how you can help support your students' communication? Well, this is the training for you. We will start with an overview of AAC. Then we will dive deep into two research-based techniques to support communication. First, we will discuss augmented language input. What it is and why it is essential for your students. Next, we will talk about storybook interactions and how to get the most out of them. Plenty of examples and opportunities to practice will be provided.
