Counseling for Success with the English Learner Roadmap
Middle and high school counselors play a pivotal role in ensuring multilingual learners have meaningful access to academic opportunities, supports, and pathways to success. This one-day institute is designed for counselors and EL coordinators/directors to build understanding of English Learner needs, become acquainted with effective approaches to guidance and counseling for multilingual students, and identify what can be done to strengthen supports for those students.
Participants will use the Secondary Counselor’s Toolkit for English Learner Success to explore EL typologies, program placement, supports for socio-emotional needs, and strategies for guiding students toward graduation, college, career, and the Seal of Biliteracy. Through practical tools, case studies, and collaborative learning, attendees will strengthen their ability to support students through an asset-based mindset and contribute towards building inclusive, language-affirming schools.
Whether you’re new to this work or refining existing practices, this institute will equip you with actionable strategies to champion English learner success.
