California READS: Building Literacy From Foundations to Meaning K-6


Professional Learning in the Science of Reading

California READS (CA READS) is a TK–5 literacy professional learning program aligned to the State Board of Education–approved criteria under Assembly Bill 121, Literacy Professional Development Programs. CA READS builds capacity among certificated and classified TK–5 educators to implement evidence-based, standards-aligned literacy instruction for all learners, with an emphasis on English learners, students with reading difficulties, and students with or at risk for dyslexia.

What you can expect from CA READS:

  • 12-module series (each module is 2.5 hours)

  • 1 hour pre- and post-assessment

  • 33 hours of synchronous learning

  • 6 hours of asynchronous “Give It a Try!” activities

  • Approximately 40 total hours of professional learning

  • Digital badges through Credly, the digital badging system, are awarded upon completion

What we expect from participants:

  • Attendance at all virtual synchronous sessions

  • Completion of asynchronous “Give It a Try!” activities

  • Participation in pre- and post-assessments

Cost:
The total cost is $500 per participant for the full year-long series. This includes facilitation, materials, and access to aligned instructional resources. This professional learning program meets AB 121 criteria and may be funded using state-allocated resources.

Space is limited. Participants will be accepted in the order registrations are received.
