Session #1: Beyond the Highlight: Making Student Thinking Visible 5 of 5 open seats
9:00 AM – 10:30 AM TBD
Reading should be more than highlighting and answering questions. Experience practical, ready-to-use strategies that help students in grades 3–12 actively interact with text, make their thinking visible, build understanding, and turn reading into meaningful writing and discussion. You’ll leave with strategies you can use in your classroom tomorrow.
Session #1: Creating Philosophical Space in Your Classroom 5 of 5 open seats
9:00 AM – 10:30 AM TBD
A philosophical space is where students feel safe to be scholarly — to ask questions, take intellectual risks, and think critically out loud. But that space doesn't start with a Socratic Seminar; it's built from small, deliberate moves. In this interactive session, we'll explore the Philosophical Space of the AVID Foundations of Instruction and work through the foundational WICOR strategies that make it possible. Teachers will leave with a set of low-prep, ready-to-use strategies and a clear sense of how they stack into the conditions for deeper discourse.
Session #1: Level Up Your Thinking: Costa’s Levels of Thinking in Action 4 of 5 open seats
9:00 AM – 10:30 AM TBD
Explore how Costa’s Levels of Thinking can help students move beyond recall and engage in deeper, more meaningful learning. In this interactive TK–12 session, educators will experience practical AVID strategies for intentionally incorporating Costa's Levels 1, 2, and 3 questions across grade levels and content areas. Participants will leave with ideas for increasing rigor, strengthening academic discourse, and empowering students to become more independent and critical thinkers.
Session #2: Building Classroom Culture and Relationships 5 of 5 open seats
10:45 AM – 12:15 PM TBD
Discover resources and discuss strategies for building a positive classroom and relationships with your students.
Session #2: Phase 2 of Focused Note Taking: Processing Notes 4 of 5 open seats
10:45 AM – 12:15 PM TBD
Teachers will explore how students process their notes to make connections, clarify understanding, and deepen their learning.
Session #3: Unlocking Achievement: AVID Strategies to Organize and Empower 5 of 5 open seats
1:00 PM – 2:30 PM TBD
This interactive session focuses on practical ways to help students build organizational habits that support academic success. Participants will explore strategies for managing materials, time, and thoughts while considering how to model and teach these skills in their own classrooms. By the end, educators will leave with ready-to-use tools that encourage students to take responsibility for their learning and strengthen college and career readiness. (AVID-Trained)
