Counselors’ Toolkit for English Learner Success
Calling All Middle School and High School Counselors!
The Multilingual Achievement Supports | MÁS Team invites you to a Book Study series designed for secondary school counselors and administrators to build foundational understanding of the needs of Emultilingual-English learner students, including different typologies such as newcomers and Long Term English Learners. Participants will learn from the readings, tools, resources, and case studies in the Counselor’s Toolkit for English Learner Success. Using the four Principles of the CA English Learner Roadmap, counselors will gain an understanding of how their role as guidance counselors fits into the overall framework of the California’s vision for ML-EL success. Topics in the Toolkit include implications for counseling services, appropriate ELD placement, scheduling issues and options within a secondary school context, and approaches to pathways for ELs to graduation, career, college and biliteracy.
Attendance along with the EL Coordinator/Director and/or site administrators can strengthen collaborative work and impact.
Participants will have the opportunity to receive a set of Toolkits with which to lead their own Book Study or professional learning sessions in their own districts/sites.
Audience: Counselor with the EL Coordinator/Director and/or site administrators can strengthen collaborative work and increase impact.
