EPiCC Summer Series: Foundational Literacy Skills for Multilingual-English Learner Students TK-3

How can we support the development of foundational literacy skills for our diverse multilingual-English learner students?

Adapting instructional practices to meet the unique needs and characteristics of multilingual-English learners (ML-ELs) is essential. This two-session event will focus on strategies to support phonological/phonemic awareness and phonics paired with oral language. Aligned with Principle 2 of the English Learner Roadmap, participants will learn to identify and address ML-EL students' strengths and unique needs in foundational literacy, recognize opportunities for cross-linguistic transfer and oral language development, and implement effective instructional practices. Attendees will receive a hard copy of the book Literacy Foundations for English Learners by Dr. Elsa Cárdenas-Hagan.

Note: This event is geared toward TK-3rd grade educators; however, the concepts could be valuable to intermediate teachers and coaches seeking a deeper understanding of ELD foundational literacy instruction. A light breakfast and lunch will be offered. Although the professional learning is free of cost, there is a $30 material fee to cover the two days.

Your confirmation to attend will be required.
