Computer Science Integration (CSI) for Science and Math
Integrating Computer Science and Standards for Career Ready Practice through science and math classrooms within STEM Career Scenarios.
Relevant classroom activities are engaging to students because they do not have to ask, "When are we going to use this?" The secret to providing students with relevant content through engaging activities is to link those activities to the work actual STEM professionals perform in the field, and that often includes using Computer Science to complete hands-on projects.
Join us in this hands-on Professional Learning course that will empower your students with innovative problem-solving skills! Through the avenue of career awareness, you will engage in using the Computer Science Standards to investigate and solve problems in the world around you. We will be using the micro:bit and modeling to apply measurement and data analysis for making safe decisions regarding natural and/or engineered phenomena.
CSI will provide the Secondary Educator with:
-
An unplugged lesson that makes the case to consider WBL and the use of technology as necessary steps while engineering solutions.
-
Lesson ideas for how to use physical computing (micro:bit) to integrate CS with Science and/or Math that will make content relevant for students.
-
Opportunities to plan for integration opportunities for the upcoming school year that use local phenomena that students find relevant, Computer Science Standards, and WBL.
-
An opportunity to meet a community of peers who share an interest in implementing ideas generated by the workshop to implement with students
-
Take home materials from the lesson ideas including a micro:bit and more…
