OPTEL Instructional Leadership Institute
AUDIENCE: Classroom Teachers, Teacher Leaders, TOSAs, Instructional Coaches, Administrators at All Levels of the System
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The OPTEL Instructional Leadership Institute will equip participants with the expertise needed to understand and use California’s Observation Protocol for Teachers of English Learners (OPTEL). The four-session series combines in-person and virtual formats and will cover the following OPTEL topics:

structure and equity focus
-
performance ratings
-
observation documentation
-
high-leverage instructional strategies
-
parent consultation approaches
Institute participants will acquire essential knowledge to formatively assess student language acquisition progress in expressive and receptive skills. This practice of using the OPTEL will inform participants of next steps for ELD classroom instruction and align their system to an equitable approach towards English Learner reclassification.

Note: The professional learning is free of cost; however, there is a $30 fee for materials. A light breakfast and lunch will be offered on each in-person day of the institute.
