Explore strategies to create welcoming, inclusive environments where multilingual learners thrive. Learn how to strengthen family partnerships, support language development, and design culturally responsive programming in Expanded Learning Programs.

Join us for monthly virtual sessions with John Friedrich and Van Lay to allow teachers to collaborate and share experiences.  Each 45-minute session will give teachers an opportunity to learn the latest research from Peter Liljedahl and his team, discuss challenges and successes with grade-level breakout groups, and engage with an aspect of the California Mathematics Framework.

We are offering 10 sessions for you to choose from - attend them all or a few.

The first of two days designed to provide teachers with avenues to implement BTC practices in subject areas other than math, such as science, ELA, and social studies.  Participants will experience tasks as learners, then debrief as teachers to examine the BTC practices that amplify the thinking in the classroom and supports student collaboration with peers and engagement with deep learning. . These sessions are designed for participants who have some experience with BTC, although all are welcome.

The second of two days to provide teachers with BTC strategies to implement across multiple subject areas, such as Science, ELA, and Social Studies.  In addition to experiencing tasks, participants will also look at planning units with their adopted materials.

Participants will experience strategies that empower students to:

• Think critically and engage deeply in learning
• Collaborate effectively with their peers
• Apply thinking classroom practices across subject areas

These sessions are designed for participants who have some experience with BTC, although all are welcome.

This one-day workshop focuses on toolkits 2-3 from Peter Lillejedahl's Building Thinking Classrooms in Mathematics book.

We'll dive deeper into the strategies:

That keep students actively thinking and staying in flow

The steps needed to consolidate and close the lesson

The macro and micro moves teachers utilize to ensure student learning of the concepts.

Participants should have either completed the first course or have already set up their classrooms to reflect BTC

The Sacramento Cal-SOAP Consortium meets on a quarterly basis to share best practices of college access and success activities to maximize resources and avoid duplication of services. Meeting of key stakeholders from county offices of education, higher education institutions, K-12 districts, community agencies and businesses. 

The California Department of Education, Special Education Division is pleased to announce trainingin preparation for the upcoming collection of data for students with disabilities in the California Longitudinal Pupil Achievement Data System (CALPADS): CALPADS Special Education Data 2026-27.

This is a hybrid training, and you may attend in person or via Zoom. 

These sessions will train local special education data coordinators and Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA)-level staff on the updates and changes for the CALPADS Fall 1 Submission as well as other special education-related data. The training will cover:

•    Fall 1 CALPADS Data Submission and Reports
•    What’s new for Fall 1
•    State Performance Plan (SPP)/Annual Performance Report Indicators using Fall 1 data
•    Data for Annual Determinations Letter (ADL)
•    Monitoring Reports and Holding Timely Meetings

Attendees are encouraged to bring laptops if possible.

Please join the Capitol Area Regional Transformational Assistance Center for quarterly, in-person meetings to gather information, share ideas and strategies, and connect with peers who are also working to build high quality community schools.

The sessions are designed to provide new content, concrete strategies and practices, and opportunities to network in differentiated groups (ie: role alike, cohorts, types of LEAs). Ideally, you will attend with a team of people from your district and/or school site so that you can work together to prioritize and integrate new content into your existing community school plans.

Audience: county, district, and site community school coordinators, teachers, education specialists, site administrators, students, family members, community partners, and anyone interested in Community Schools

Elementary, middle, and high school educators, in all subject areas, are invited to attend this Institute to learn how to civically engage young people in their community. Learn how YOUR students can be formally recognized by the Sacramento County Office of Education and be prepared to earn the State Seal of Civic Engagement in high school.
