The CALPADS Network provides an opportunity for sharing "best practices" while communicating updates on CALPADS business rules. Participants will be provided with resources to support the work of data quality and learn how CALPADS data impacts funding, accountability, etc. 

All sessions will be offered as a hybrid event.  Attendees who attend in person will be offered a bonus session from 11:00 A.M. - 12:00 P.M.

This session will highlight key Social and Emotional Learning constructs that support a safe and positive school and classroom culture. We will examine how an increased sense of belonging supports a positive school climate, which decreases incidents of bullying, and engage in discussion and collaboration around braiding SEL with bullying prevention and response.

Part 1: Deep Dive with UDL

Select one 3 hour in-person session - Integrating UDL into lesson planning & circle time

In this 2-part series you’ll sharpen your UDL skills during lesson planning to support ALL students in your inclusive classroom. Consortium members receive a $300 stipend for completing parts 1 and 2.

The Capitol Area Regional Transformational Assistance Center (R-TAC), co-facilitated with the Community Schools Learning Exchange (CSLX), provides a virtual learning series focused on the key components of the Community Schools Framework and the foundational practices needed to implement and sustain community schools. The series offers grounding in the Community Schools Framework and capacity-building strategies, along with hands-on tools, opportunities to learn from experienced community school leaders, and networking with fellow community school grantees working toward school and community transformation.

Recommended for Community Schools Partnership Program (CCSPP) grantees and specifically site leads and community school staff.

Join us in year four of our county-wide reading and literacy initiative designed for LEA Literacy leadership teams. Sessions will include keynote speakers, collaborative learning within and accross LEAs, district spotlights, and team time.

Sessions are designed for LEA literacy leadership teams. All members of LEAs are included: Superintendents, Assistant Superintendents, Chief Academic Officers, Site Leaders, Instructional Coaches. We also encourage LEA Elementary and Secondary leaders in Curriculum & Instruction, Equity, MTSS, Special Education, Multilingual Education, Early Learning, Expanded Learning, and Assessment & Research to attend.

Building the Foundation: Creating Community with Expectations and Rules
A Pyramid Model Workshop for Early Childhood Educators

• Focuses on helping children understand and follow expectations and rules as part of a positive classroom community.
• Covers key strategies for teaching expectations, creating rules with children, using visuals, and reinforcing positive behavior.
• Follows a 3-part structure:
o 45-Minute Interactive Presentation — Evidence-based practices for teaching expectations and building community.
o 15-Minute Video Reflection — Real-world examples of expectations in action with guided discussion.
o 55-Minute Tinker and Take — Hands-on creation of expectation charts, rule visuals, and support tools for daily routines.
• Emphasizes the role of visuals, modeling, and family partnerships in supporting behavior.
• Provides practical tools for embedding expectations and rules across classroom routines and transitions.
• Includes adaptable activities and strategies for all

Capitol Area Regional Transformational Assistance Center (R-TAC) provides community schools workshops for county office of education (COE) staff from the 12 Capitol Area counties (Alpine, Colusa, El Dorado, Nevada, Placer, Sacramento, San Joaquin, Sierra, Solano, Sutter, Yolo, Yuba). The goal of the COE Network for Community Schools is for COE staff to learn about strategies to support California Community Schools Partnership Program (CCSPP) grantees in their counties, receive state and regional updates, share highlights of community schools implementation, and network on problems of practice.

 This session will highlight key Social and Emotional Learning constructs that support a safe and positive school and classroom culture. We will examine how an increased sense of belonging supports a positive school climate, which decreases incidents of bullying, and engage in discussion and collaboration around braiding SEL with bullying prevention and response.

Discover practical strategies to align expanded learning and community schools, strengthen collaboration, braid funding streams, and create a seamless system of supports that improves outcomes for students and families.

Family and Community Engagement (FACE) Teams, which may include site leaders, community liaisons, teachers, families, coaches/interventionists, paraprofessionals, and other support staff, will work collaboratively to deepen partnerships and refine site literacy plans.

FACE teams will apply what they learn in the sessions, and the different types of information gathered from families and communities, to refine family and community engagement in the Literacy Plan through a continuous improvement model. FACE teams will explore and learn about ways to engage in partnership with their families and communities in support of effective literacy development that aligns with CDE’s Family Engagement Toolkit and other impactful resources. FACE Teams will acquire tools necessary to evaluate existing participation efforts, adjust approaches to designing inclusive events, and develop the necessary dispositions to transform participation to partnerships.

This session will equip site and district leaders with strategies to drive system-wide shifts toward NGSS-aligned assessment. Participants will learn how to guide instructional teams in creating sensemaking tasks that turn assessments into empowering, confidence-building experiences. Leaders will leave with actionable tools to support, monitor, and scale student-centered assessment practices across their schools.

Gain a deeper understanding of the Individualized Education Program (IEP) process and the important role preschool educators play in supporting young learners with disabilities. In this interactive professional learning session, participants will explore the key components of the IEP journey, including referral, assessment, eligibility, implementation, and ongoing collaboration with families and service providers. 

Special Education Legal Updates
Presented by Heather Edwards, Attorney at Law

Receive timely updates on changes in special education law, recent court decisions, legislative developments, and legal guidance affecting special education practice. Includes a live Q&A to address participant questions and real-world scenarios.

OVERVIEW

In this four-day institute, participants will deepen or develop the expertise needed to design high-quality and equitable learning opportunities for K–6 Multilingual Learners/Emerging Bilinguals by implementing high-challenge, high-support instruction that supports the simultaneous development of content and language — in both Spanish and English. The institute will be led in Spanish, thus offering Dual Language and bilingual educators the opportunity to engage in professional learning experiences in Spanish. 

NOTE: participants will need to feel comfortable to engage in professional and academic conversations, readings, and writing in Spanish for 80% of the institute.

PURPOSE AND GOALS

Dual Language programs hold a powerful promise: that all students — speakers of both program languages — develop bilingualism, biliteracy, and cross-cultural competence alongside rigorous disciplinary understanding. Realizing this promise requires specialized educator expertise. This institute is designed to build that expertise so teachers can design and implement instruction that engages and supports the development of all students' full linguistic repertoire.

Through engagement in this professional learning opportunity, participants will:

• Understand the tenets of a sociocultural approach to pedagogy that promote equitable, quality learning opportunities for all students across both program languages 

• Deepen understanding of pedagogical scaffolding to support rigorous learning across both program languages, including strategies that build cross-linguistic connections and advance biliteracy

• Understand and apply QTEL’s Principles of Quality Teaching 

• Design and/or amplify lessons using QTEL's Three-Moment Lesson Architecture to build disciplinary knowledge alongside conceptual, analytic, and language practices — drawing on students' home languages and bilingual competencies as assets

• Design and implement tasks that support the development of oracy through quality interactions around relevant, powerful ideas. 

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

Bilingual teachers in K-6 Dual Language and bilingual program settings who wish to develop or deepen the expertise needed to offer rigorous, quality learning opportunities to their Multilingual Learners/Emerging Bilingual students.

This institute is well suited for educators who:

• Teach in Spanish Dual Language or Spanish bilingual elementary classrooms

• Are ready to weave language, literacy, and content instruction across both program languages (Spanish and English)

• Want to build a shared approach to biliteracy development alongside colleagues

The Capitol Area Regional Transformational Assistance Center (R-TAC) provides a virtual workshop series designed to foster a collaborative learning environment where participants engage in new learning while advancing their community schools implementation efforts. The network brings together site teams that are developing and demonstrating promising community schools practices, creating opportunities for shared learning, reflection, and collaboration across sites.

Participants identify and work through contextualized problems of practice informed by local needs and assets assessments, as well as qualitative and quantitative data. Through a year-long improvement process, site leads and their teams engage in focused learning, test solutions through short improvement cycles, and share strategies and lessons learned with peer cohorts aligned around similar goals and challenges.

These virtual sessions are intended for grantees who would like support with implementing components of their community school implementation plans.

How using the single arrow rubric to provide student feedback on engagement and collaboration shifts classroom culture and students’ view of mathematics.

The Capital Regional Assessment Network (CRAN) is more than just a meeting—it’s a vibrant community of assessment and accountability professionals from across the 14-county Capital Central Foothill Area Consortium (CCFAC) and beyond.

Led by the Sacramento and Placer County Offices of Education—with support from COE partners and local educational agencies (LEAs)—CRAN brings together smart minds, shared challenges, and fresh ideas.

Each meeting is a chance to learn, laugh, and connect. Whether you're troubleshooting tricky testing logistics or celebrating a new data dashboard, CRAN is the place to bring your questions, swap stories, and spark ideas with fellow coordinators. Come for the updates, stay for the camaraderie—and leave with tools, insights, and maybe even a few new friends.

• All meetings are at SCOE.
• Each meeting begins with a bring-your-own Networking Lunch from 12-1 PM.
• Meetings run from 1:00 PM to 3:30 PM. 
• This community meets six times a year.

Outcomes

1. Gain an understanding of phonological awareness.

2. Determine the development of phonological awareness in children aged three to five-and-a-half years.

3. Identify practices to support the development of children’s phonological awareness.
