2-Part Series

Navigating state and federal program requirements can be complex! To support your work and keep you informed, SCOE offers the State and Federal Programs Network.

These virtual sessions are designed to serve as a collaborative space for both district and charter leaders. Sample topics include:

• Timely Regulatory & Funding Updates: Key guidance regarding Title programs, LCAP alignment, grant management, and compliance timelines.
• Peer Collaboration: Dedicated time to share effective practices, resources, and strategies across districts and charter schools.
• Q&A & Direct Technical Assistance: Live opportunities to clarify guidance, address common compliance questions, and request focused support.

Meetings are held via Zoom the week following the CDE State and Federal Directors meeting. A calendar invite and Zoom link will be shared upon registration.

A series dedicated to exploring strategies, tools, and resources that aid in reducing stress, increasing happiness and wellbeing, and creating better balance in our lives. While each session is part of a series, they are stand-alone sessions. Join one, a few, or all of them!

Outcomes

1. Gain an understanding of phonological awareness.

2. Determine the development of phonological awareness in children aged three to five-and-a-half years.

3. Identify practices to support the development of children’s phonological awareness.

How can teachers easily and effectively build language proficiency for their English learner/emergent bilingual students throughout their daily lessons? 

This interactive four-session series provides teachers with a construct and set of strategies that can be effectively integrated into existing lessons and practices. Aligned to Principle 2 of the English Learner Roadmap and the English Learner Toolkit of Strategies, participants will learn to effectively identify and address the strengths and needs of English learner/emergent bilingual students by providing targeted scaffolds and supports. Participants will develop strategies to actively engage students in all four language domains (listening, reading, speaking and writing), deepening students’ use of sophisticated academic language and tapping into their linguistic genius. Teachers will be prepared with tools and resources to implement in their classrooms.

Note: This event is geared toward elementary educators; however, the concepts could be valuable to secondary teachers and coaches seeking a deeper understanding of ELD. A hard copy of the toolkit is available to participants, but will need to be picked up at the Sacramento County Office of Education.

The CA Reading and Literature Project’s Signature Course Results: Foundational skills for teaching word recognition and fluency  is designed specifically for LCRSET Coaches and Reading Specialists. The Results program offers an in-depth understanding of the four major components of reading foundational skills: print concepts, phonological awareness, word recognition, and fluency. Grounded in current research, Results teaches best practices in reading instruction, provides routines that will help students master Common Core State Standards, and offers assessments for determining students' reading proficiency. The Results program is taught by current classroom teachers who have demonstrated success in their classrooms and have been trained in the Results approach to literacy.

Over four sessions, we will unpack and learn:

• Best practices in early reading instruction.

• Instructional routines for teaching reading at your grade level.

• How to assess and measure your students' growth in reading.

• Specialized knowledge to support your work with students from underserved communities.

When student behavior is intense, complex, and high-stakes, common strategies often fall short. This training goes beyond surface-level approaches to focus on individualized, skilled interventions that truly make a difference. You'll learn practical tools that are often overlooked or misapplied in schools - strategies that help, not just manage, the most challenging behaviors. Special attention will be given to supporting students with trauma histories, mental health concerns, and those with extensive behavioral and developmental needs. Through case studies, discussion, and hands-on problem-solving, you'll leave with a deeper understanding of how to support students who need more than just the basics.

Join us for this engaging three-session series designed to build practical project management skills you can immediately apply to your work. 

Across the series, you'll explore the five phases of project management—from initiation through closeout—while also learning practical strategies for effective project communication and navigating change. Each session builds on the previous one, so participants are encouraged to attend all three sessions to get the most from the experience. 

The Attendance and Engagement Network is hosted by the Sacramento County Office of Education. The Network meets three times a year, with agendas developed collaboratively based on feedback from network members.

The network facilitates learning activities, guest speakers, and tools to:

The Capital Regional Assessment Network (CRAN) is more than just a meeting—it’s a vibrant community of assessment and accountability professionals from across the 14-county Capital Central Foothill Area Consortium (CCFAC) and beyond.

Led by the Sacramento and Placer County Offices of Education—with support from COE partners and local educational agencies (LEAs)—CRAN brings together smart minds, shared challenges, and fresh ideas.

Each meeting is a chance to learn, laugh, and connect. Whether you're troubleshooting tricky testing logistics or celebrating a new data dashboard, CRAN is the place to bring your questions, swap stories, and spark ideas with fellow coordinators. Come for the updates, stay for the camaraderie—and leave with tools, insights, and maybe even a few new friends.

This session explores the engineering design process through cardboard tinkering, inviting participants to design, build, and refine structures using simple materials. Through challenges that emphasize creativity, constraints, and iteration, participants investigate how materials, joinery techniques, and structural decisions impact stability and function. Along the way, educators reflect on how to adapt tinkering experiences to their own contexts, identifying practical pathways for integrating meaningful, learner-centered STEAM experiences into diverse teaching spaces.

The Paraprofessional Role: Supporting Instruction, Behavior, and Student Success (New!)

Paraprofessionals play a critical role in supporting students with diverse learning and behavioral needs in special education settings. This training provides foundational knowledge and practical strategies to help paraprofessionals effectively support instruction, behavior, and student independence. Participants will learn how disabilities impact learning, clarify their roles and responsibilities within the classroom, and understand how to support students using proactive strategies, prompting, and consistent communication. This training emphasizes teamwork and consistency to ensure all staff are working together to support student success.

The CALPADS Network provides an opportunity for sharing "best practices" while communicating updates on CALPADS business rules. Participants will be provided with resources to support the work of data quality and learn how CALPADS data impacts funding, accountability, etc. 

All sessions will be offered as a hybrid event.  Attendees who attend in person will be offered a bonus session from 11:00 A.M. - 12:00 P.M.

Join us in year four of our county-wide reading and literacy initiative designed for LEA Literacy leadership teams. Sessions will include keynote speakers, collaborative learning within and accross LEAs, district spotlights, and team time.

Sessions are designed for LEA literacy leadership teams. All members of LEAs are included: Superintendents, Assistant Superintendents, Chief Academic Officers, Site Leaders, Instructional Coaches. We also encourage LEA Elementary and Secondary leaders in Curriculum & Instruction, Equity, MTSS, Special Education, Multilingual Education, Early Learning, Expanded Learning, and Assessment & Research to attend.

Overview: The New Coordinator Support Sessions will provide an opportunity for new California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) and English Language Assessments for California (ELPAC) coordinators (in their job for three years or less) to receive small group support from experienced coordinators.

The LEA assessment coordinator position has a huge learning curve, including many deadlines and few, if any, ‘job alikes’ within a district. The sessions will be guided by the activities listed in the Coordinator Checklist and will include other timely activities. The support sessions will be offered monthly via Zoom. These sessions will be co-facilitated by SCOE and PCOE LEA coordinators. The facilitators will help address questions and offer support. These support sessions are designed to provide new LEA assessment coordinators an opportunity to connect with other coordinators, build community and to ask questions related to their job in a small group setting.

After attending this session, educators and leaders will engage in discussion and activities to help build their skill sets in preventing, supporting, and repairing with students and adults in crisis. Participants will understand some of the neuroscience behind stress, conflict, and crisis, and will explore the seven stages of the crisis cycle.
