EPiCC Summer Series: Integrated and Designated ELD for Secondary Teachers
This two-day in-person summer event will be framed by the four principles of the English Learner Roadmap policy and focuses primarily on deepening knowledge and implementing quality teaching and learning practices for multilingual-English students. It will feature guidance provided in key California Department of Education resources, including the following:

EPiCC Summer Series: Foundational Literacy Skills for Multilingual-English Learner Students TK-3
How can we support the development of foundational literacy skills for our diverse multilingual-English learner students?
Adapting instructional practices to meet the unique needs and characteristics of multilingual-English learners (ML-ELs) is essential. This three-day event will focus on strategies to support phonological/phonemic awareness and phonics paired with oral language. Aligned with Principle 2 of the English Learner Roadmap, participants will learn to identify and address ML-EL students' strengths and unique needs in foundational literacy, recognize opportunities for cross-linguistic transfer and oral language development, and implement effective instructional practices. Attendees will receive a hard copy of the book Literacy Foundations for English Learners by Dr. Elsa Cárdenas-Hagan.

EPiCC Summer Series: Strategies for Elementary Integrated and Designated ELD
How can teachers easily and effectively build language proficiency for their English learner/emergent bilingual students throughout their daily lessons?
This interactive three-day in-person event provides teachers with a construct and set of strategies that can be effectively integrated into existing lessons and practices. Aligned to Principle 1 and Principle 2 of the English Learner Roadmap and the English Learner Toolkit of Strategies, participants will:

Learn to effectively identify and address the strengths and needs of English learner/emergent bilingual students by providing targeted scaffolds and instructional support.

Develop strategies to actively engage students in all four language domains (listening, reading, speaking and writing), deepening students’ use of sophisticated academic language and tapping into their linguistic genius.

Be prepared with tools and resources to implement in their classrooms.
