The School-Based Mental Health and Wellness team at SCOE has been applying principles and practices from Stephanie Coleman's wonderful workshop "Breaking Barriers" in our various convenings. Join us for a four-session Joyful Literacy Community of Practice shaped by your needs and designed to deepen your skills and expand your toolkit for joyful, culturally affirming literacy instruction in early learning settings. This series is open exclusively to educators who have previously attended the Joyful Literacy Institute or Saturday Academy.

What to Expect
In these four interactive sessions, participants will help to create the content based on their needs in implementing the Joyful Literacy materials. Sessions will build on their knowledge from previous Joyful Literacy professional development to explore:
• Interactive read-alouds using culturally affirming storybooks
• Oral language development and vocabulary enrichment
• Social-emotional growth through storytelling and discussion
• Creative expression through play, writing, and the arts
• Strategies for year-round literacy integration in early learning environments
 
Eligibility & Stipend
• Open only to alumni of the Joyful Literacy Institute or Saturday Academy
• Stipend: $200 for attending all four sessions (no partial stipends)
• Cost: Free to participate

       Highlights how descriptive feedback is more powerful than generic praise and how it strengthens skills, relationships, and confidence.

       45-Minute Interactive Presentation — Fun strategies and examples for noticing, describing, and reinforcing positive behaviors.

       15-Minute Video Reflection — Real-world clips of Positive Descriptive Feedback in action with guided discussion.

Sacramento Countywide Inclusion Academy for Teams- Year 2

Increasing meaningful, effective, and inclusive school experiences for students with disabilities requires an organization-wide vision, commitment, and careful planning focused on shifting educational policies, practices, and culture. This interactive series is designed for LEA teams to address key factors that can influence successful organization-wide transformation efforts resulting in greater inclusion and belonging for every student.

Participants will:

-Identify multi-disciplinary (GenEd & SpEd) leadership team participants who will collectively cultivate and refine inclusive policies, practices and systems.

-Calibrate understanding, language, and collective responsibility for dismantling ableist mindsets, policies, and practices.
